Elisabeth “Lizzie” Knot, a former standout tennis player at Calvin University, tragically passed away unexpectedly, leaving a deep sense of loss among her family, friends, teammates, and the entire Calvin University community.

We mourn the loss of Elisabeth “Lizzie” Knot ’24, a beloved member of the Calvin community. Lizzie’s kindness, deep faith, and unwavering love for those around her left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. She lived with intentionality and grace, reflecting Christ’s love in all she did.
“She embodied Romans 8:28 and she knew that ‘in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.’ She loved Him and knew that all things would always work out according to His purpose because of that love,’” said Sam Niewiek ‘22, Lizzie’s boyfriend.
Lizzie not only lived by Romans 8:28 but also embodied the fruit of the Spirit described in Galatians 5—“love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” Through the work of the Holy Spirit, she demonstrated these qualities daily, leaving a lasting impact on those around her.
Lizzie attended Illiana Christian High School.
Lizzie was a dedicated and talented athlete, known not only for her impressive skills on the tennis court but also for her incredible sportsmanship and kind heart. As a member of the Calvin University women’s tennis team, Lizzie’s passion for the game and her positive attitude made her a beloved teammate and an inspiration to those around her.
Off the court, Lizzie was admired for her warmth, humility, and deep commitment to her friends, family, and the people in her community. Her bright spirit and generous nature left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
While details surrounding Lizzie’s passing remain unclear, her memory will live on through the countless lives she touched. Her family, friends, teammates, and the entire Calvin University community extend their deepest condolences and continue to support one another during this heartbreaking time.
