The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that two students were struck by a semi-truck near Woodlands Middle School in Lake Worth on Thursday.
According to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, one student was transported to a trauma center as a trauma alert, while the other was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Officials confirmed that both victims were eighth graders, and the hospitalized student is expected to survive.
13-year-old Landon Coggin is named as Woodlands Middle School 8th graders killed in Thursday crash involving semi truck on Lyons Road in Lake Worth. The kids were reportedly riding their bicycles when they crashed into each other and fell into the roadway.
According to authorities, 62-year-old driver Joel Negron had no causation in the crash.
Woodlands Middle School Principal Jenifer Kuras addressed the school community with a heartfelt message, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of one student and extending condolences to their family. She assured families that the school would provide support and resources during this difficult time.
Kuras also emphasized the importance of compassion and understanding as students process this tragedy, noting that grief counseling services will be available on campus for both students and staff. Additionally, she encouraged parents to monitor their children for signs of distress and to seek further emotional support through the 211 Helpline if needed.
