Atlanta police are treating the untimely death of Sammy Jackson, the former head basketball coach of two Georgia universities, as a homicide. His body, which appeared to have been shot, was discovered on Wednesday in a forested area in northwest Atlanta.
This came after his family reported him missing a few days prior, which prompted an investigation that has prompted numerous inquiries on the circumstances surrounding his demise.
During his illustrious collegiate basketball career, Sammy Jackson was renowned for his leadership positions at Savannah State University and Fort Valley State University. After losing touch with him, his family were extremely worried and contacted the Peach County sheriff’s office to report him missing.
According to an incident report, Jackson’s wife told investigators that she last spoke to him late on Sunday, when he was preparing to begin work for a food delivery service. Jackson was also known to have been a rideshare driver, which added another layer of complexity to his sudden disappearance.
In addition, detectives discovered that Brown was further connected to the crime because he had placed an order for a ridesharing in Houston County the day Jackson’s body was discovered. Brown was already being held at the Houston County Jail at the time of his identification on a separate Warner Robins robbery case.
The goal of the investigation is still to determine what caused Sammy Jackson’s untimely death. Many questions are raised by the connection to Iquane Brown, and the public is anxiously awaiting additional information from the authorities. Jackson’s case has prompted people who knew him to demand justice in the hopes that answers will put an end to this tragic circumstance.
