On August 20, 2025, at around 10:00 pm, Kavish Veda Persad, a 19-year-old from Mahelal Street, was driving his white Hyundai Ioniq when he attempted to overtake another vehicle. In the process, he collided with the car, causing his vehicle to crash into a Beetham water main, sending it airborne before landing in the nearby Laventille River.

Kavish Veda Persad was a bright young man, celebrated for his academic achievements.
