Dan Darragh, a former quarterback for the Buffalo Bills and a respected attorney, passed away on September 2, 2025, at the age of 78. He is remembered not only for his time in professional football but also for his significant contributions to environmental law.

    What Happened

Darragh, who had a brief but impactful career in the American Football League (AFL) and National Football League (NFL), died on September 2, 2025, at 78. Known for his determination on and off the field, Darragh’s legacy extends beyond football to his work in law, particularly in the environmental sector. After his football career, Darragh transitioned into law and became a passionate advocate for environmental causes in Pittsburgh.

    Who Was Dan Darragh

Born on November 28, 1946, Darragh grew up in a football-loving environment and later attended the College of William & Mary, where he played college football under legendary coach Marv Levy. During his time at William & Mary, Darragh was a standout quarterback who led the Tribe with impressive performances, including throwing for 1,346 yards in his senior season. Despite the team’s struggles, Darragh’s leadership on the field earned him recognition and eventually led to his selection in the 1968 NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills.

    Career/Legacy or Background

Darragh’s professional football career spanned from 1968 to 1970. He played for the Buffalo Bills, stepping into the starting role in the 1968 season after Jack Kemp was injured. Darragh started in 13 games for the Bills and was part of the team’s challenging 1-12-1 season. He later served as a backup quarterback during the 1969 season before an injury cut his playing career short. Darragh’s final appearance in the NFL came in 1970, when he made a brief relief appearance in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Following his football career, Darragh pursued a law degree from Duquesne University, which he earned in 1975. He worked as a practicing attorney, focusing on environmental issues in Pittsburgh, where he became known for his dedication to both his clients and the community.

In 1992, Darragh was inducted into the William & Mary Hall of Fame, a fitting recognition for his contributions to the school’s football program.

    Public/Social Media Reactions

Darragh’s passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from his former teammates, coaches, and football fans. William & Mary, the Buffalo Bills, and many others who knew Darragh throughout his career have expressed their admiration for him as both a player and a person. Social media posts have celebrated his character, both on and off the field, highlighting his dedication to his family, community, and the environment.

Official Statements or What Happens Next

The Buffalo Bills and the College of William & Mary have not yet released official statements about Darragh’s passing, but many expect tributes to follow. As of now, his family and close friends are mourning the loss of a man who made a lasting impact both in sports and in his post-football career.
