Chattanooga, TN — K9 Buck, a 2-year-old Labrador, has sadly passed away from serious medical complications on September 24, 2025, leaving the Chattanooga Police Department and the community mourning the loss of a loyal and brave service dog.
What Happened
Buck had served for just over a year in explosives and firearms detection, always on the lookout and performing his duties with dedication. His partnership with his handler, Officer Lucas Timmons, was one of mutual respect and affection, as Buck was not only a working dog but also a beloved member of the Timmons family.
Chief John Chambers expressed his sorrow over the loss, saying, “Our K9 partners are part of our family. Saying goodbye is never easy, but losing two in one week is truly heartbreaking.” Just a week prior, another K9, Diesel, was lost in the line of duty.
Buck’s Life Beyond Work
While Buck was dedicated to his job, he also enjoyed his time off, especially his love for swimming and going on family vacations with Officer Timmons and his family. He was cherished not only for his service but for his playful and loving nature.
A Community’s Loss
Buck and Diesel were not just partners in law enforcement, but part of the larger family that served and protected the people of Chattanooga. Their service, loyalty, and love will never be forgotten. Their passing has left a profound impact on their handlers, fellow officers, and the entire community.
