Leetwain Darrell Tate, 48, a former school bus driver at Sugar Creek Charter School in Charlotte, has been arrested in connection with a child sex crimes investigation involving young teenagers. Tate, also known as “Sharon” or “Ms. Sharon,” faces multiple charges including statutory rape and indecent liberties with minors.

    What Happened

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested Tate on Tuesday morning after an investigation into allegations involving two young victims, aged 14 and 15. Tate has been charged with two counts of statutory rape, one count of statutory sex offense, and six counts of indecent liberties with a minor.

While Tate was employed as a school bus driver at Sugar Creek Charter School, the reported incidents did not occur on school property or while Tate was working in that role. The investigation began after complaints were made, and Tate was suspended before being officially fired on September 29, 2025.

    Investigation Details and Ongoing Search

CMPD’s Crimes Against Children Unit is continuing the investigation and believes there may be additional victims. Authorities are urging anyone with information or who may have been affected to come forward. Detective King can be reached at 704-336-7495, and anonymous tips can be submitted to Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

    Current Status

Tate is currently being held at the Mecklenburg County jail. A bond has not been set, and her first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
