October 5, 2025 – Police in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, have arrested a father and son duo after a six-month investigation revealed they were running a drug operation out of an auto repair shop. The bust, which occurred on Friday, October 3, 2025, led to the seizure of significant quantities of narcotics, firearms, and the arrest of three individuals.

    What Happened

Rocky Mount Police executed a raid on Alpha Automotive, located at 625 S. Washington St., after an extensive six-month investigation focused on employees at the car repair shop. The police seized 32.8 pounds of marijuana, 51.25 grams of cocaine, 10.2 grams of psilocybin (hallucinogenic mushrooms), and several firearms, including four rifles (one of which was confirmed stolen) and two handguns.

The operation culminated in the arrest of Alex Burgess, 42, the owner of Alpha Automotive, along with his son Nyrek Burgess, 20, and an employee, Yasin Hall, 19. The arrests and seizures stemmed from evidence gathered throughout the investigation, leading officers to obtain a search warrant for the premises.

    Charges and Arrests

Alex Burgess, the father, faces the following charges:

    • Trafficking marijuana (Felony)
    • Trafficking cocaine (Felony)
    • Maintaining a dwelling/shop for selling controlled substances (Felony)
    • Possession of drug paraphernalia (Misdemeanor)

Nyrek Burgess, the son, faces the same charges as his father, with additional counts including:

    • Possession with intent to sell/deliver Schedule I controlled substances (Felony)
    • Sell/deliver marijuana – 2 counts (Felony)
    • Conspire to sell/deliver marijuana – 3 counts (Felony)
    • Possession of a stolen firearm (Felony)

Yasin Hall, the employee, was arrested on charges of:

    • Possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana (Felony)
    • Possession of drug paraphernalia (Misdemeanor)

    Legal and Financial Details

Following the bust, Alex Burgess was jailed on a $50,000 secured bond, while his son Nyrek was held on a $78,000 secured bond. Hall, the 19-year-old employee, was held under a $1,500 secured bond.

    Public and Police Reactions

This investigation marks a significant victory for the Rocky Mount Police Department as part of their ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks within the city. Police Chief [Name] emphasized the department’s commitment to reducing illegal activities in the community, stating, “This investigation demonstrates our continued efforts to disrupt and dismantle criminal networks operating within the city.”

The bust has garnered attention from the local community, as the involvement of a family-run business in such illicit activities raises concerns. Local residents have expressed shock, noting the prevalence of Alpha Automotive in the area.

    What Happens Next

The legal process is now underway, with Alex and Nyrek Burgess facing serious charges related to drug trafficking and the illegal possession of firearms. Investigations into the source of the drugs and firearms are continuing, and police have assured the public that they will take further actions to address any additional illegal activities linked to the suspects.
