Freddie Louis Whittiemore, affectionately known as “Buddy,” was 72 years old when he disappeared on June 19, 2005. Last seen between 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. walking his dog along Charleston Road and Highway 179, about a mile from his home, Buddy has been missing for over 20 years. His dog returned home later that day, but there was no sign of Buddy.

    What Happened

Buddy Whittiemore’s disappearance has remained a mystery for nearly two decades. On the morning of June 19, 2005, he went out for a walk with his dog, but he never returned. Despite extensive efforts to locate him, including searches by local authorities and volunteer groups, the case went cold. The dog’s return without Buddy raised suspicions, but no answers were found.

Dottie Norwood, Buddy’s daughter, has been tirelessly seeking closure for her family. “We want some closure,” she said, reflecting the ongoing pain and uncertainty that her family has lived with for years.

    New Developments in the Case

In October 2024, a new tip prompted the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to reopen Buddy Whittiemore’s cold case. The tip suggests that foul play may have been involved in his disappearance, bringing new hope that the mystery of his whereabouts may soon be solved.

    How to Help

If you have any information that could assist in solving the case, you are encouraged to contact Equusearch Midwest at (513) 503-3706 or email tesmidwest@gmail.com. Any details, no matter how small, could help bring the Whittiemore family the closure they have been waiting for.
