Union Grove, AL — October 21, 2025 — Cal Guess, an 8-year-old boy from Union Grove, tragically passed away following a devastating all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident over the weekend. The accident occurred on Sunday on private property, and Cal was thrown from the ATV during a single-vehicle crash.
What Happened
According to the Marshall County Coroner’s Office, Cal was immediately rushed to Huntsville Hospital and later airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham for further treatment. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Cal passed away on Monday from the injuries sustained in the crash.

The local community, including Arab City Schools, expressed deep sorrow at the loss of young Cal, noting that he was a beloved member of the school community. The school’s statement said the team was “deeply saddened” by the untimely death of their young student.
