Miami Beach Police Officer David Cajuso, a dedicated 33-year-old veteran of the force, tragically passed away on Monday, October 28, 2025, following a motorcycle accident on Interstate 75 in Hialeah Gardens, Florida. The accident occurred when Officer Cajuso, who had served the department for a decade, lost control of his police-issued motorcycle and veered off the roadway, crashing down a steep embankment near the Palmetto Expressway.

    What Happened

The crash took place around midday on October 28, 2025, while Officer Cajuso was traveling northbound on I-75. For reasons still under investigation, his motorcycle veered off the road and descended into a grassy embankment. Witnesses immediately called 911, and first responders from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) arrived at the scene within minutes. Paramedics performed CPR on the injured officer before he was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

Despite the tireless efforts of medical staff, Officer Cajuso succumbed to his injuries later that afternoon. A solemn law enforcement procession accompanied his body to the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office, as fellow officers and community members lined the streets to pay their respects to the fallen officer.

Who Was Officer David Cajuso / Background of the Case

Officer David Cajuso was a highly regarded 10-year veteran of the Miami Beach Police Department (MBPD). He was well-known among colleagues for his professionalism, courage, and unwavering commitment to public safety. As a member of the Traffic Enforcement Unit, Cajuso specialized in road safety and community outreach, areas in which he made a significant impact.

Miami Beach Police Chief Wayne Jones described Cajuso as a “decorated hero” who exemplified the values of integrity, bravery, and selflessness. “Officer Cajuso represented the best of what it means to wear the badge,” Chief Jones said in a statement. “He was deeply respected by his peers and beloved by the community he served.”

Beyond his law enforcement career, Cajuso was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband and father to three young children, aged two, three, and five. Those who knew him personally remember him as someone who always prioritized his family, despite the demands of his profession.

    Career, Legacy, or Case Details

Officer Cajuso’s death has left a profound void in the Miami Beach Police Department and the broader community. His death comes after a career marked by both dedication and courage. In 2017, Officer Cajuso was struck by a black BMW while conducting a traffic stop, an incident captured on body camera footage. Despite being thrown to the ground and sustaining injuries, Cajuso made a full recovery and returned to active duty, demonstrating his resilience and commitment to service.

    Community Reactions and Tributes

Following the tragic news, tributes have poured in from across South Florida’s law enforcement community. The Miami Beach Police Department lowered its flags to half-staff in honor of Officer Cajuso’s service and sacrifice. Plans are also underway for a memorial service to celebrate his life and legacy. Fellow officers, community leaders, and citizens have expressed their condolences, remembering Cajuso for his dedication to the community and his selfless service.

One colleague shared, “David was not just a colleague; he was a friend to all of us. His passing is a huge loss, but his spirit and impact on the community will never be forgotten.”

Official Statements or What Happens Next

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Officer Cajuso’s fatal motorcycle accident continues. Authorities are working to understand the cause of the crash and to determine any contributing factors.

A memorial service is being planned to honor his memory, and tributes will continue to pour in from both the law enforcement community and the people he served so diligently throughout his career.
