UFO Reporting App Enigma Tracks Thousands of Mysterious Underwater Sightings Along U.S. Coastlines

A popular UFO-reporting app, Enigma, has sparked a flurry of attention after it revealed that users have documented thousands of mysterious underwater objects, raising new questions about the presence of unidentified phenomena beneath the U.S. coastlines.

    What We Know So Far

Launched in 2022, Enigma is a non-partisan organization that claims to have the “largest queryable historical sighting database for global UFO sightings.” While the app initially focused on tracking UFOs in the sky, it has recently shifted attention to “Unidentified Submersible Objects” (USOs) after receiving a growing number of reports of mysterious underwater phenomena.

Since August 2025, Enigma has recorded more than 9,000 USO sightings, mostly within 10 miles of U.S. coastlines and major bodies of water. These USOs are defined as objects detected underwater that cannot be identified or explained immediately. Many of these sightings include reports of objects moving at incredible speeds, making sharp directional changes, and possessing the ability to seamlessly transition between water and air, a characteristic described as “transmedium” capability.

    Eyewitness Accounts and Expert Insights

Kent Heckenlively, author of Catastrophic Disclosure: Aliens, The Deep State and The Truth, commented on the phenomenon, noting, “What is really interesting to me is the reports we receive about underwater vessels detecting craft moving at exceptionally high speeds underwater.” Heckenlively suggests that these objects might either be technology we don’t understand or possibly even ghosts beneath the water. Additionally, more than 150 reports have described objects either hovering above bodies of water or emerging from them, further fueling speculation.

California and Florida have emerged as hotspots for USO sightings, with California reporting 389 incidents and Florida recording 306 sightings. These two states, known for their large coastal populations, have seen several clusters of activity, particularly around specific coastal points. Heckenlively remarked, “It seems like there are five or six areas where there’s real high UFO activity around water.” He added, “The ocean seems like a great place to hide.”

    National Security Concerns

This wave of USO sightings has raised concerns for both experts and government officials, with some fearing that these unexplained objects could pose a national security risk. Retired Navy Rear Admiral Tim Gallaudet has voiced concerns about the unknown characteristics of these objects, especially after footage from the Pentagon showed objects that appeared to “jeopardize U.S. maritime security.” Gallaudet has pointed out that objects captured in the 2019 video, particularly one that plunged into the Pacific Ocean after buzzing past the USS Omaha, displayed capabilities that far exceed anything known to be human-made.

“The fact that unidentified objects with unexplainable characteristics are entering US water space and the Department of War is not raising a giant red flag is a sign that the government is not sharing all it knows about all-domain anomalous phenomena,” Gallaudet said.

Growing Public Interest and Call for Transparency

Enigma’s crowdsourced data collection has shifted the traditional narrative around UFOs and USOs. In a realm once largely dominated by secrecy, Heckenlively believes that the growing interest in public UFO findings is a positive step toward transparency. He remarked, “What’s the best disinfectant for corruption? Sunlight. So let’s throw as much sunlight on this as possible and see what scurries out.”

Despite remaining skeptical of alien theories, Heckenlively insists that the government’s failure to provide transparent information only fuels public distrust. “I’m convinced that the government is lying to us,” he stated.

    Moving Forward

As the investigation into these USO sightings continues, Enigma and experts like Heckenlively are pushing for greater transparency from U.S. government agencies, advocating for a deeper investigation into these unexplained phenomena. With many witnesses stepping forward and the app’s database continuing to grow, the question remains: what exactly is lurking beneath the U.S. coastlines? Only time will tell.
