BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Local authorities have apprehended a 24-year-old Somerville man following the theft of a construction vehicle. Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr., and Bridgewater Township Police Chief John B. Mitzak reported that Amr A. Khodeer was arrested on June 4 after a series of events that began in Somerville and ended in Bridgewater.
On the afternoon of June 4, Khodeer was spotted near Union Street in Somerville, where he allegedly stole a construction vehicle. He then drove recklessly through Bridgewater Township, colliding with two other vehicles and a structure before the vehicle became disabled on Promenade Boulevard. Following the crash, Khodeer fled on foot but was soon captured by Bridgewater police.
One person injured in the incidents was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Khodeer also received medical treatment following his arrest. He has been charged with third-degree theft of a motor vehicle and faces numerous motor vehicle summonses.
Detectives from the Bridgewater Township Police and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office conducted the investigation. Khodeer is being held in the Somerset County Jail and is awaiting a detention hearing.
