Porterville, CA – November 16, 2025 – A high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle ended in tragedy late Sunday night, with one suspect dead, another in critical condition, and a Tulare County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputy hospitalized. The events unfolded around 11:56 p.m. when officers responded to a request for assistance in locating a stolen vehicle in Porterville.

    What Happened

The suspect, 17-year-old Nathaniel Michael Landa, was driving the stolen car and failed to stop when officers attempted a traffic stop. This led to a brief pursuit across the western part of Porterville. During the chase, the suspect crashed into a TCSO patrol car. Fortunately, the deputy in the patrol car was unharmed, but the chase continued at high speeds toward the intersection of Westfield Avenue and Newcomb Street.

Despite the officers’ efforts to end the pursuit, Landa’s vehicle continued to evade them. The chase escalated as the suspect’s vehicle reached Prospect Street. At the intersection of Westfield Avenue and Prospect Street, the stolen vehicle collided with another TCSO patrol car traveling southbound. The impact caused Landa’s car to veer off the road and crash into a yard, where it subsequently caught fire.

    The Victims

Nathaniel Landa, who was a passenger in the stolen car, was declared dead at the scene. The second individual in the vehicle was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, while the TCSO deputy involved in the second crash suffered moderate injuries and was also hospitalized for treatment.

    Investigation and Cause of Death

The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident, including the possibility of drugs or alcohol being factors in the crash. The area around Prospect Street and Westfield Avenue has been closed for evidence collection, and drivers are being advised to seek alternative routes.

    Family’s Heartbreak

In a tragic turn, Nathaniel Landa’s family disclosed that he passed away on his 17th birthday. His mother expressed her profound grief, saying, “It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that Heaven gained another angel.” Nathaniel was born on November 16, 2008, and tragically lost his life on the same date in 2025.

    Community Support

As the family navigates this heartbreaking loss, they have launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses and to transport Nathaniel back to Bishop, CA. The community has rallied around the family, offering condolences and financial support during this challenging time.

    Final Thoughts

This tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers associated with high-speed pursuits and the impact such events have on the lives of everyone involved. As the investigation continues, the family of Nathaniel Landa mourns the loss of a young life cut short, and the community offers its support during this difficult time.

This story may be updated with more information as the investigation progresses.
