The crash occurred when Mrs. Otis, driving the Mercury Grand Marquis, was exiting northbound I-295 and attempting to navigate the ramp onto Bragg Boulevard. The vehicles collided, and despite immediate medical assistance, Mrs. Otis was tragically declared dead at the scene.
The operator of the Silverado, 58-year-old Wilton Allen Nickerson from Stedman, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment. His current condition has not been made public, and officials are still working to determine the circumstances leading up to the crash.
