Fernando Ortiz, 86, from Waverly, tragically lost his life in the accident, which took place at the intersection of N. 162nd Street and Bluff Road.

At 9:14 a.m. on Thursday morning, emergency responders from Waverly Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the scene of a two-vehicle collision. According to the LSO, a dump truck belonging to the Lancaster County Engineering Department was traveling south when it collided with a red vehicle heading west. The impact caused the red vehicle to be forced through the intersection and into a nearby ditch.
Despite the prompt efforts of emergency medical personnel, Ortiz, who was a passenger in the red vehicle, was declared dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries. His spouse, who was the driver of the red vehicle, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where she remains in stable condition.
