A routine Friday afternoon in Portland, Oregon, turned tragic when a pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash on December 12, 2025. The fatal incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. in the 8700 block of Northeast Prescott Street, leaving the community shaken and investigators searching for answers.

Portland police say the driver fled the scene, abandoning the victim, who was pronounced dead at the location despite emergency response efforts.

    What Happened

According to the Portland Police Bureau, officers were called to Northeast Prescott Street shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday following reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. When police arrived, they found an adult man critically injured on the roadway.

Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but the victim could not be revived and was declared dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

    Hit-and-Run Under Investigation

Police confirmed the crash is being investigated as a hit-and-run, as the driver did not stop to render aid or contact emergency services. Authorities have not yet released a description of the vehicle or the driver involved, adding urgency to the investigation.

Northeast Prescott Street was closed for several hours between 86th Avenue and 88th Avenue as officers and crash reconstruction specialists canvassed the area for evidence, including debris, tire marks, and possible surveillance footage.

    Community Impact and Safety Concerns

The fatal crash has left residents of Northeast Portland grappling with grief and concern. Streets and sidewalks that many walk daily now feel unsettling, especially in daylight hours when families, commuters, and children are typically present.

Community members are being asked to remain vigilant and reflect on anything unusual they may have seen around the time of the incident.

    Public and Social Media Reactions

Neighbors and local residents have expressed sorrow and frustration, particularly over the driver’s decision to flee. Many have taken to social media to share condolences for the victim and to urge anyone with information to come forward.

Residents are also checking doorbell cameras, security systems, and dashcams that may have captured a vehicle leaving the area around the time of the crash.

Official Statements or What Happens Next

The Portland Police Bureau says the investigation is ongoing and is urging the public to assist. Anyone who witnessed the crash, saw a vehicle speeding away from the area around 3:00 p.m. on December 12, or has relevant video footage is asked to contact police immediately.

Tips can be provided to the Portland Police Bureau’s Traffic Division or through the department’s non-emergency line. Investigators say even small details could be critical in identifying the driver responsible.

As the search continues, the city mourns an unidentified man whose life was abruptly cut short on Northeast Prescott Street—someone who was likely a loved one, a friend, and a vital part of a family now facing unimaginable loss.
